Here at common art and Boston Warm we have had a really wonderful last few weeks rehearsing and preparing for Richie’s play, which is being performed this week!
On Wednesday morning we had a set and costume making table where a few members helped us craft some fun and colorful props for our cast members. The props table was a nice way to invite some artists who weren’t cast members into the play community. During this art making time, many members came up to the table asking excited questions about the play and asking how they can help. The community is abuzz with the anticipation of Richie’s play.
Our rehearsals on Wednesday and Friday went swimmingly. The cast dove into their characters, playing with new ways to bring Richie’s world to life. As I have minimal theater experience, I really leaned on the cast, making sure they had a lot of say in the decisions being made. The process of blocking the scenes was very collaborative, with cast members offering suggestions on how they think the scene should look on stage. The teamwork that took place in these rehearsals is really a testament to the love and care that is deeply felt in this community.
It’s been a joy to work alongside Richie in directing this play and getting to see the members engaging in this art form! This truly is a talented bunch of people and I’m looking forward to seeing them kill it on stage this Wednesday! Wish us luck!
