We had a lot of wonderful art situations happening at common art last Wednesday. The knitting table is still going strong. We had a member’s work get veryyyyy tangled. Spreading out across the room with our sections of the yarn, about 5 of us helped untangle the ball of yarn. This funny moment was also a good moment of teamwork!
In commemoration of the Great Blizzard of 2026, we had a salt-and-watercolor snow-landscape art activity, which a lot of members really enjoyed. Lastly, a member who was inspired by an art documentary he had recently seen made a non-representational self-portrait, entitled “What’s in my Heart?”. The piece comprised illustrated symbols and images important or meaningful to him, such as: books, art supplies, playing cards, a horseshoe for luck, and the initials of his children. I really enjoyed being able to witness his artistic process and talk with him about the meaning behind the piece.
All in all, a great week here at common art! –Alex Shoemaker
