Happy New Year!

It’s my second week back at common art and Boston Warm, and it has been a really warm welcome back into the community. These first two weeks have been filled with sweet art-making time, lots of laughter, and friendly competition over games of Uno.

On Wednesday at common art, we celebrated the birthdays of both the Rev. Tina and the  Rev. Tamar.  One of our longtime members baked a chocolate cake and made banana pudding to share in celebration with the community. Singing “Happy Birthday” and sharing some homemade treats felt like a great way to start the New Year with some joy and hope. We have also been preparing the world FILM premiere of Richie Berman’s “Superangel and The Divine Sidekicks”, which will happen next Wednesday, Jan. 28th. On Wednesday, a few members helped me create a colorful banner to hang on the stage during the premiere.

On Friday at Boston Warm we had our monthly “Can We Talk?” event, where members are invited to share anything they have on their hearts in a safe and open space. This month, lots of members participated by sharing memories, recent stories, poems, and other musings. As always, I appreciate this time, as I get to learn from the members.

That’s all for this week, see you all here next Wednesday!   –Alex Shoemaker
