Documentary & Winter Walk

Hello, Folks! In December, we had our play performance of Richard Berman’s “Super Angel and the Divine Sidekicks Battle the Government”. Two Emerson College film students came to common art to film the process of the making of the play. Last Wednesday, we had the world premiere of the documentary! The documentary was wonderfully done. It was touching to see the community reflected back to itself in an art form in which few people get to see themselves represented. When different members would come on-screen, there would be hollers and cheers from the crowd. It was a great way to honor and celebrate common art and the creativity of the community. Adam, one of the filmmakers who came for the premiere,  did a Q&A with the community after the screening, which further helped members connect with the film. Continue reading

Spectrogram

Last Wednesday, I decided to do a performance-based workshop with my common art poetry group, using Dylan Thomas’s “Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night”. We mixed things up with some acting exercises, which had everyone laughing and really brought the poem to life. It was such a great reminder of how performance can transform poetry into something so dynamic and engaging. The energy in the room was contagious! Continue reading

  • August 1. Nancy Granert began as organist.
  • Building Chair David Carlson wrote a grant proposal to the Mass. Historical Commission, which awarded us a $100K matching grant for restoration of the Lindsey Chapel.
  • Scenes of The Proposition with Kenneth Branagh as priest were filmed at Emmanuel.
  • Mary Eliot (Pat) Jackson served as junior warden with John Hsia as senior warden.  She edited Emmanuel News from 2000-01.
