Bringing Myself into the Community

It is the fifth week since I joined Emmanuel Church. Time passes so fast, especially this season! Bringing art projects to Common Art and Cafe Emmanuel groups, I focused on art in nature. When I noticed all the color changes on the street, the idea of creating art with nature just leaped to my mind . So I brought some origami plants to Common Art on Wednesday.

It was such a blessing when people joined me and made art together. Trying something new is not easy; it takes courage, curiosity, trust, and patience. Making origami not only requires paper but also patience. We fold up the paper step by step until the model is complete. It is an art that both challenges our hands and our mind. As I saw them all making origami, I felt grateful to be a part of the community and lead this project.

On Thursday at Cafe Emmanuel, we resumed our rainbow-message project. Each participant first selected a color of paper to represent their day and then wrote down a word, drew an image, or made a mark on the paper. Inspired by the fall season, I had brought the group several leaves from outside. Some participants showed particular interest and chose to create art on those leaves. Eventually their pieces will incorporated into a big rainbow mural. Our group’s creativity produces happiness and a sense of joy in daily life; everyone is artistic. Anticipating our final product is very exciting.
